A luxury kitchen remodel in Houston is defined by what is built, not by the price tag: inset custom cabinets, upper cabinets stacked to the ceiling, appliances hidden behind matching panels, quartzite or marble counters, a slab backsplash and a pantry you cannot see from the room. An upscale major kitchen remodel in Houston averages $157,727 according to the 2025 Cost vs Value Report, and Kitchen Remodel Masters builds kitchens at that level with its own cabinet shop and countertop fabrication.

This page explains what “luxury” means on a job site, where in Houston we build these kitchens, how the design process works, the timeline, and what the market data says about cost.

What a Luxury Kitchen Remodel Includes

Every high-end kitchen remodel in Houston shares a short list of details. Each one is a decision you make in design, and each one changes the cost.

  • Inset or full-overlay custom cabinetry. Inset doors sit flush inside the face frame with an even reveal on all four sides. Every door is fitted by hand. Jose has built cabinets for 20 years and makes inset, full-overlay and flat-panel doors in our shop on Washington Avenue. See custom cabinets in Houston for construction details.
  • Stacked uppers to the ceiling. A second row of glass or solid-door cabinets above the standard uppers carries the cabinetry to 9 or 10 foot ceilings. It removes the dust shelf and adds storage for serving pieces.
  • Panel-ready appliances. The refrigerator, dishwasher, wine column and ice maker take cabinet doors that match the rest of the kitchen. The pro range or cooktop and the hood stay on display.
  • Quartzite, marble or porcelain counters. Natural quartzite gives the look of marble with far better scratch and etch resistance. Eduardo fabricates and installs these slabs in-house after templating in your kitchen.
  • Full-height slab backsplash. The same stone runs from the counter to the bottom of the uppers, or to the ceiling behind the range. Veining is book-matched where two pieces meet.
  • Hidden pantry. A walk-in pantry behind a cabinet door, or a butler’s pantry with its own sink and counter, keeps small appliances and bulk storage out of the main room. The 2026 Houzz Kitchen Trends Study found 16% of renovating homeowners added a walk-in pantry and 7% added a butler’s pantry or prep kitchen.
  • Layered lighting. Recessed cans for general light, under-cabinet strips for task light, pendants over the island and in-cabinet lighting behind glass doors, each on its own dimmer.

A 48 inch pro range and a paneled 48 inch refrigerator both need electrical and cabinet planning, which is why the design phase comes before the proposal.

Where We Build Luxury Kitchens in Houston

Kitchen Remodel Masters sees the most requests for this scope inside the Loop and in the Memorial area.

  • River Oaks. 1920s to 1950s homes with formal floor plans. Most projects open the kitchen to the family room, which means an engineered beam, then stacked inset cabinets and a large island. See kitchen remodeling in River Oaks.
  • Memorial and the Memorial Villages. Ranch homes on large lots, often with 9 foot ceilings and room for a 10 to 12 foot island, a butler’s pantry and a second dishwasher. See kitchen remodeling in Memorial.
  • Tanglewood. Mid-century homes near the Galleria that are being rebuilt or taken to the studs. Panel-ready appliances and slab backsplashes are standard requests here. See kitchen remodeling in the Galleria area.
  • West University. Newer two-story homes with large kitchens and 10 foot ceilings that call for stacked uppers and a walk-in pantry.

Our project on Cobblestone Drive shows this level of finish in a Houston home: a full kitchen remodel with a built-in entertainment wall in matching cabinetry. See the Cobblestone Dr kitchen remodel with entertainment wall. For a flat-panel look with natural stone, see our custom flat-panel cabinets with quartzite countertops project.

The Design Process for a High-End Kitchen

A luxury kitchen is designed twice: once on screen and once at the stone yard.

  1. Free in-home consultation. Sean Carmel measures the room, checks ceiling height, the direction of the ceiling joists, the panel capacity and the plumbing location. On a slab-on-grade home, moving the sink or adding an island sink means cutting the slab, so the location is settled early.
  2. Free 3D design. You see the layout, cabinet style, door profile, finish color, counter material, backsplash, flooring and lighting in a rendering of your kitchen. Appliance sizes come from the manufacturer spec sheets so the panels and openings are exact. Read more on our kitchen design services and 3D rendering page.
  3. Slab selection at the yard. Quartzite and marble vary from block to block. You pick the exact slabs, and Eduardo lays out the island and the backsplash on those slabs so the veining runs the way you want it.
  4. Written proposal. Line by line: cabinets, stone, appliances, electrical, plumbing, lighting, tile, paint. No allowances left open.
  5. Shop build. Jose builds the cabinet boxes, doors and appliance panels while the permit is in review.
  6. Construction. Samuel, our project manager of 27 years, runs the schedule with daily photo updates and daily cleanup. Our process page walks through each step.

Luxury Kitchen Remodel Timeline

Phase Typical time
Consultation and 3D design 2 to 3 weeks
Slab selection, appliance ordering, permit review 1 to 3 weeks (City of Houston residential remodel review is 1 to 15 business days)
Cabinet build in our shop Runs during the steps above
Construction, same layout 2 to 4 weeks
Construction with wall removal or layout change 4 to 8 weeks

Appliances set the pace more often than cabinets do. Pro ranges and paneled refrigerators can carry long lead times from the manufacturer, so we order them the week the proposal is signed. Custom cabinets from an outside supplier can take 8 to 12 weeks to arrive according to Block Renovation (2025); because our cabinets are built in-house, that wait mostly disappears.

Luxury Kitchen Cost in Houston

Kitchen Remodel Masters does not publish a price list. The published market ranges below show what the high end costs in Houston and nationally.

Source Scope Range
Cost vs Value Report, Houston (Zonda / JLC, 2025) Upscale major kitchen remodel, 200 sq ft, custom cabinets, stone counters, commercial-grade appliances $157,727 average, recouping 33.2% at resale
Cost vs Value Report, Houston (2025) Midrange major kitchen remodel $81,521 average
Houzz Kitchen Trends Study (January 2026) Median major remodel in kitchens over 250 sq ft $75,000
HomeAdvisor (June 2026) Total makeovers with high-end materials $65,000 to $130,000 or more; $75 to $250 per sq ft
Fixr (September 2026) Luxury kitchen with layout changes Up to $200,000 or more; up to $250 per sq ft
Synchrony (October 2024) Top-of-the-line project $100,000 to $250,000 and up

Cabinets are the largest single line in every one of those sources, followed by countertops and appliances. Inset doors, stacked uppers and appliance panels all add cabinet square footage, which is why a luxury kitchen can cost twice what a midrange remodel of the same room costs. Our kitchen remodel cost in Houston guide breaks the numbers down by size and tier, and the average ROI of a kitchen remodel in Houston page covers resale.
