Dawn’s kitchen in Tomball had solid oak cabinets and a layout that worked. The dark green countertops were the problem. Kitchen Remodel Masters Houston removed them from the perimeter, the island and the raised bar and replaced them with a light veined stone with a rounded edge, then cut a matching cutting board from the remnant.

What changed
- Countertops only. Template, fabrication and a one-day install by Eduardo’s team. Sink and cooktop cutouts were made to the existing fixtures. See countertop replacement.
- Three surfaces. The L-shaped perimeter, the island and the raised bar that faces the family room, all in the same slab so the veining runs through.
- Rounded edge. A softer profile that suits the traditional oak cabinets.
- Next step for this kitchen. Painting the oak cabinets white or a soft gray would finish the update. Read cabinet painting in Houston.

Frequently Asked Questions
What was replaced?
The dark green countertops on the perimeter, the island and the raised bar came out and were replaced with a light stone with soft tan and gray veining. The oak cabinets, backsplash and sink location stayed.
How long does a countertop replacement take?
Eduardo's team templates the kitchen in one visit, fabricates the slabs in our shop, and sets them in one day. Most countertop-only jobs are done within one to two weeks of the template.
What is the cutting board in the photo?
A piece cut from the leftover slab. When a remnant is big enough we make a matching board or a shelf for the client instead of throwing the stone away.
Do you replace countertops without changing the cabinets?
Yes. New counters on existing cabinets is the fastest kitchen upgrade we do, and it works well on solid oak cabinets like these. See the countertop replacement page for materials and the Houston cost guide for market ranges.
