Todd’s hall bathroom in Montgomery had a dated shower that needed to go. Kitchen Remodel Masters Houston took it to the studs, moved the valve and shower head to the right height, built a new pan, waterproofed everything, and tiled a walk-in shower with a bench, a recessed niche, a rain head with a handheld, and a frameless glass door.

Demo, waterproofing and tile
What we did
- Demo and plumbing. Old tile and backer board out, new valve and supply lines roughed in, drain reset for the new pan.
- Waterproofing. Cement board on the walls, then a liquid membrane over the walls, bench and niche. This is the step that keeps a shower from leaking into the wall five years later. Read how we build showers on the walk-in shower installation page.
- Tile. Large-format marble-look porcelain set vertically, a hexagon mosaic floor for grip, a metal-edged niche and a bench with a stone cap.
- Fixtures and glass. Brushed nickel rain head, handheld on a slide bar, and a frameless glass door measured after the tile was finished.
The same homeowner had us build the brick outdoor kitchen on the back patio. For a shower like this in your home, see tub-to-shower conversions and what a bathroom remodel costs in Houston.

Frequently Asked Questions
What tile is in this shower?
Large-format marble-look porcelain on the walls, a white hexagon mosaic on the floor and inside the niche, and a tiled bench with a stone cap. Porcelain gives the marble look without the sealing and etching of real marble.
How was the shower waterproofed?
The walls, bench and niche were coated with a liquid waterproofing membrane over cement board, the red layer in the progress photos, before any tile went up. The pan was built and tested before tiling.
How long did the shower take?
Demo, plumbing, waterproofing, tile, glass and fixtures on a shower this size usually run one to two weeks on site, with the frameless glass measured after tile and installed about a week later.
Do you work in Montgomery and The Woodlands?
Yes. We take bathroom and kitchen projects north of Houston including The Woodlands, Conroe and Montgomery. Sean comes out for the free consultation and 3D design the same way he does in the city.
